PATENT ATTORNEY

 

Job Objective:

 

A patent attorney is a techno-legal professional who represents clients in obtaining patents and in filing a lawsuit in case of an infringement by some competitor. The term is used differently in different countries. Ideally, it's a legal professional who has to have expertise in at least one scientific field: be it biotechnology or pharmaceuticals or electronics, among others

 

Skills Required:

 

• Ability to absorb all kinds of information.
• Good oratory skills
• Analytical skills to draw inferences and conclusions after studying the invention

 

Field Of Study:

 

Gain expertise in one area - mechanics, chemistry, pharmaceutical, or software or even maths. Pursue a Bachelor's or preferably an ME or MSc. After this, go for a diploma m intellectual patent rights from a known institute or do LLB from IIT (Kharagpur) where intellectual property rights is the prime focus. Join a law firm or company as a trainee in the patent department. Pick a year's experience and clear patent agent's exam. You can now join a law firm, a corporate or an outsourcing firm

• NALSAR University of Law. Hyderabad, PG diploma in patent law
• Indira Gandhi National Open University.

Expected Pay:

 

Entry Level: Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 a month
Middle Level (3-4 years of experience): Rs 40.000 to Rs 50,000 a month.
Higher Level: With more experience sky is the limit
